Touring the Prisco Community Center
The Center for Achieving Independence recently visited Fox Valley Park District’s Prisco Community Center for a tour focused on career exploration and community connection.
Lynn Piotrowski, Facilities Manager, welcomed our group and shared information about the many ways the park district serves the community. Participants learned that the district includes much more than parks alone, with spaces and services that support recreation, fitness, events, and year-round operations.
Learning about career pathways
During the visit, participants explored several areas of the facility, including fitness spaces, outdoor areas, and behind-the-scenes maintenance operations.
Seeing these environments in person helped participants better understand the range of jobs that help support the park district’s work each day.
Connecting strengths to real-world roles
Participants learned about a variety of possible roles, including front desk support, groundskeeping, cleaning, maintenance, and event support.
This helped make employment pathways feel more tangible. It also gave participants a chance to think about which types of environments and responsibilities may be the best fit for their strengths and interests.
Building community partnerships
We are thankful to the Fox Valley Park District and Lynn Piotrowski for taking the time to welcome our group and share their expertise.
Visits like this help CAI participants build confidence, explore future opportunities, and better understand the many ways they can contribute in their communities. Strong community partnerships like this one play an important role in opening doors to meaningful and inclusive employment experiences.
