Participants from the Center for Achieving Independence recently visited The Growing Place for a hands-on workshop focused on gardening, plant care, and workplace readiness. The experience provided participants with an engaging opportunity to learn practical skills while exploring a real-world greenhouse environment.
During the visit, participants toured the nursery, learned about daily greenhouse operations, and gained insight into the work that goes into caring for plants and maintaining an organized growing environment. Activities included learning about watering schedules, planting techniques, organization, and plant maintenance while interacting with greenhouse staff throughout the workshop.
The outing also helped participants strengthen important social and workplace skills in a supportive setting. Throughout the experience, individuals practiced teamwork, communication, following directions, attention to detail, and collaboration while completing hands-on activities together.
Experiences like these are valuable because they allow participants to explore new interests and discover potential career pathways in a comfortable and encouraging environment. Exposure to real-world workplaces can help build confidence, increase independence, and create meaningful opportunities for personal growth.
Community partnerships play an important role in the mission of CAI, and opportunities like this help participants continue building connections beyond the classroom setting. By participating in interactive workshops and community-based learning experiences, individuals can continue developing practical life skills while gaining confidence in their abilities.
We are grateful to the staff at The Growing Place for creating such a welcoming and educational experience for our participants. Their support and encouragement helped make the day both meaningful and memorable for everyone involved.
